Am redesigning the orchestra website to use PHP and be a little more
interesting design-wise.

The temporary location is
http://www.opro.org/XXXnew%20redesign/index.php - I've put XXX in to not
let the test directory be spidered, so remove that when you visit.

Not all links currently work, and there's tewaking here and there to do.
Any comments welcome.
Ok, have implemented many suggestions. Please peek at
[http://www.opro.org/new%20redesign/index.php] (now robot-proof) and the
CSS is at [http://www.opro.org/new%20redesign/imported.css].

Pics are all dummies, they do stink and will be done once I know what
needs to be done for sure. One thing I noticed - the rounded corner does
not match the color in Firefox. IE and Opera look OK. What is causing this?

I've repositioned the local navigation under the global nav. I still don't
like "Related links" - a free slice of cheese to the person who suggest
the best way to do this. I was going to remove all &nbsp;'s in the links,
but I found that some links on some pages really have to be two lines, and
so I left them in. I don't think it's harmful in any way.

Vestiges of the old #localnav are still in many pages, they'll all end up
like index.html.

Changed the #000080 blue to a #408080 green, except for headings. And
altered the files that are included in the calendar and schedule page to
eliminate the redundant link.

Anything else you see that ought to be fixed?

Some general comments:

I don't care for all the parts of the contact form being centered. I'd
rather see labels and fields left-justified. The name and email fields
should be much shorter.

The site map page isn't finished yet?

HTML and CSS validate, at least on the index page. Good!

I like the operation. It floats with my browser size. I can read it.

In the first paragraph ("The Old Post Road Orchestra is enjoying its
19th season!") I would lose the italics on the name, perhaps changing
to <strong> and an emphasizing color. I've always like dark red for
emphasis.

You might want to add some description and emphasis for the "password
access" link. I almost missed it.

As you said, you're still working on the graphics.

Good job!

Ok, I'll consider that. I see what you're after here.

It is, but it hasn't been converted yet!

That's important to me. I haven't checked a damn page, so if they turn out
OK, that's a testament to my meticulous coding.

That was the goal. Thanks.

This is one of those times I thought italics would be appropriate. I'll
have to mull this over.

Well, since you don't have the password, it's kind of senseless to draw
you to it, hmm?

I did purposely hide that link, so that those who need to get there wil
know where it is, but those who don't will be less likely to bump into it.

Quite. They are horrible, hmm?

Reason I suggested it is italic text in many browsers is somewhat
distorted.

Rather than the plain, hard to find current link, why not brighten it
up and label it "Members Log In Here" or similar. At least that would
alert non-members that they don't need to click on it and be
flamboozled by your popup dialog.

I have a club site as well, with a "Members Only" right on the main
menu. It leads to a page with a form on it.

Actually, all of maybe a half dozen people ever need to access this.
Perhaps it's better to remove the link entirely, and ask the folks who
need this one area to bookmark the page with the login?

Oh. In that case, surely don't advertise the page. I was under the
impression that folks who "Join OPRO" would use that link. "Perhaps
you'd like to become a member of the Old Post Road Orchestra."

So, this is just for .. whom? <g>

That club site of mine I mentioned? It has an online membership
database application, so any member can be the membership chairman. It
has forms for add/delete members, maintain dues, does reports, makes
merge files for mailing labels and a bunch of other stuff. Since only
the current club officers have access, there is no link anywhere.

It houses our current bylaws and other precious documents. Some of our
board members have to travel for their jobs, and in this way they can
access some documents off the Internet rather than carry them around if a
need should arise.

Neal, I just discovered that my browser is tossing up two errors every
time I access
http://www.opro.org/new%20redesign/index.php

Mozilla says (twice on every page, actually):
Error: The stylesheet http://www.opro.org/error.html was not loaded
because its MIME type, "text/html", is not "text/css".

I don't see the reason...
