Default Your opinions please, VideoWeave v2 - 11-16-2004 , 05:40 PM

Hi,

Given the suggestions of the group, I have come up with this:

http://www.nrkn.com/videoWeave/v2/index.html
http://www.nrkn.com/videoWeave/v2/main.css

Previous version:
http://www.nrkn.com/videoWeave/index.html
http://www.nrkn.com/videoWeave/main.css

Your opinions warmly welcomed.

Regarding prior posting "Critique please: videoWeave":

Brucie:
VWL squares coloured.

Leonard:
h2 tweaked. I have retained some left padding, it didn't look right with
none IMO.

Spartanicus:
Had to retain one  , for the bottomShadow div.

Neal:
Yellow added to brighten up the grey.

Barefoot Kid:
One time in every hundred the site will now randomly trigger a special Java
applet that will cause your monitor to explode. Exciting enough for you?

Nik,

I don't like the yellow; preferred the original.

I'm less sure about the VWL squares, but I slightly prefer the original
there also.

My late comment on nav bar stacking at narrow window widths applies to
this version as well.

Looks fine.

I agreed with other comments regarding the colours, I hate to say that
between the 2, I prefer the first version. The newly added colourful
accents imo now contrast to strongly with the main grey and black.
I'd try replacing the grey and black with faint colours.

I decided that it took too much code to present them centered vertically and
that they didn't really add anything. As an objective observer, do you
think they made much difference?

Do you mean the grey and black in the logo or the grey and black of the
page?

Thanks for your comments.

Nik,

I don't like the yellow; preferred the original.

I have toned it down a little, now only the h1 and current page in the
navigation are yellow.

i like them

Me too. They stay.

don't think i like that. i'm not sure. i don't think it should be on
the address at the bottom.

Removed. Yellow now used sparingly.

i forgot to mention last time but i think the white below the bottom
film strip is too bright. grey it a bit.

Tried that. Still looked too bright. Didn't want to use content background
color so ended up going with a dark grey. What do you think?

the glass shards are too small and uniform in size, more annoying than
anything. randomize the size a bit with a few really big ones that
could take your head off.
Done. That was harder to code than I thought. I had to run some modelling
software to determine the optimum shard size to cover a wide spread of
people.

i would prefer more nudity
There is some really good hardcore stuff displayed by the Java applet just
before the monitor explodes. Get a camera with a fast shutter and you might
catch it.

Who talked you out of the 3d inset effect on the butterflies? I liked it :-(

It looked wrong when I redid the page to use a lot of yellow. Now that I've
toned the yellow down, you're completely right, it did look good, so I've
put it back in. Thanks for reminding me

What I'm on about is this: Yelow is a rather "pissy" color, figurtatively
and literally. Red, blue, green, purple, they have a little more impact.
But what you choose should be based on the theme and tone of your site.

I'd like to know what the intentions of the site are before passing
judgement on the color scheme.

Real time video editing.

Subjective, IMO. From Encyclopaedia Britannica: "no universally accepted
rules apply; the perception of colour depends on individual experience.". I
know a little about colour theory. Yellow is the brightest colour.
Pyschologically it denotes happiness. Additionally, if the h1 heading was
red or green it would need to be bigger to draw the same amount of
attention. It would need to be significantly bigger if blue or purple. I
could perhaps use white, but I was trying to add colour.

I appreciate your input, but on this I must respectfully disagree.
