Default A work in progress... critique please - 07-31-2006 , 11:02 PM

I have a work that is just about complete, and would like to get some
feedback on the site:

http://members.iinet.net.au/~wabbit/index.php

I intended it to be a simple, fast site. I hope I have achieved this.

There is one problem, which I hope someone can tell me how to fix: The
right edge of the page is off the screen in IE? How can I fix this?
The page renders properly in FF...

Any help or comments are appreciated.

It appears ok on my 1280x768 screan, though if you are still having
problems, maybe look at the margins and padding. But comment changes to
make them IE specific if need be, though I don't useually do that.
I hope that helps, BTW the site looks good, although the font in the
end of the body text seams lighter and might be harder to read for some
people against the background.

I have sorted out part of the problem with the rendering of the right
hand side of the screen...

but I have discovered another IE peculiarity?

When I view the page http://members.iinet.net.au/~wabbit/learn.php the
main part of the text does not initially appear on the screen on
computer, nor on the other test computer I use??

If I shrink the screen size down, then scroll the page around, only then
does the text in the main section of the window appear? Any ideas?

Thanks Chaddy,

The disclaimer at the bottom of each screen is supposed to be a shade
lighter than the rest of the text, it is still readable, but I don't
want the user's attention to be drawn to this area. I might see if I
can make half a shade darker again, just to improve the contrast a little.

Hi TreatmentPlant,

Loved the site. I did not see the right edge of the page missing in
IE6, although I could not see the bottom border of your contents
section in IE6.

Would you consider losing the faint text disclaimer at the base of
each page and incorporate the text into a single 'Disclaimer' page?

All the best,

Andrew.

PS Go the Aussies!!!

Thanks Andrew,

As you are the second person to make comment about the text at the
bottom of the page, I have removed it to a page of its own.

It seems the disappearing text problem I mentioned before had something
to do with the length of text in the div to the right being less than
the length of text in the div to the left??? Seems to be better now.

I agree with Andrews suggestion on this issue and I can see that you
have fixxed it.

I intended it to be a simple, fast site. I hope I have achieved this.

- The logo looks washed out. It needs stronger colors to give it more
"presence."
- The ALT text for the logo is a bit doofus: "wabbit.com.au metastock
logo". How is that helpful for those who do not load images?
- When images are disabled, the ALT text for the logo is white. Very hard
to see on the pale grey background. Set the height of #header to match the
image and set a large size and a dark color for the ALT text.
- I personally find gray to be a depressing color especially when used in
vast swaths like the background color. Maybe chose a lighter shade of the
brown instead?
- Why have <h1>wabbit.com.au</h1> at the top of every content section when
the header proclaims the site name already?
- Since you use PHP, it is easy to disable the link to the current page.

Search for the IE "peekaboo" bug.
