Default WooHee - fun CSS layout tests - 11-11-2004 , 12:02 AM

Hi there,

Thought I'd expand on my CSS knowledge and try out CSS layout for the first
time, yippee...

Feeling mighty fine with my efforts *until* testing in Mozilla Firefox &
Netscape.

So I am yet to continue my learning... yippee again!

Version 1: CSS *with* table layout
http://www.limelightstudio.com.au/iss/

Version 2: CSS only
http://www.limelightstudio.com.au/iss/2/

Helen

Hi Helen!

I am also pushing my CSS skills and I have been wrestling with CSS.

Your CSS seems very close!

You might want to try nested divs?
(bracing myself for getting shot down!!)

I like to remind myself that 132% of users still use IE and -21% use
alternative, but (more) standards compliant browsers!

The "Welcome" and "International Social Service" headings are placed quite
differently in the CSS-only version.

My browsing platform: Linux/Firefox 1preview

Yes, that's what I get when viewing in Firefox, and Netscape pushes the
light blue background to the very top!

Close... but not close enough! I may get some time to work on it more today.

I was thinking it's either my placement of divs, but probably more so, it's
the styles used to define the divs ie: float...?

Tried to tweak things (re-nesting etc)

Version 3: http://www.limelightstudio.com.au/iss/3/

This version looks MUCH better in both Firefox & Netscape alhtough there are
some small issues still.

Also, this is without the blue background, that's my next task...

Now I have the blue background working....

Version 4: http://www.limelightstudio.com.au/iss/6/

However, now that all looks ggod in Firefox & Netscape - IE renders it
badly...

Looks like I'll be sticking to hte CSS with tables version for now...

Don't quit trying. Keep it up as is, work on a dummy page. Don't mess with
the live version until you are really ready to make it work.
