Default what's going on with the NG? - 06-12-2005 , 06:19 PM

I haven't looked in at this NG for several months. Seems there's a LOT
less activity and a bunch of advertisements and trolls now.

Am I wrong, or has it just been too long? This used to be a really
constructive NG. Maybe still is, and I caught it on a bad month..

Bruce

Maybe it's because of your comments. Just read "Only if his business is
building websites that look like they were designed by a 10-year-old. ...
Really pathetic" :0

Well, in a way you do have a point. Since the OP of my rather flip answer
above was probably a Brit (or more correctly, a Welshman), I assumed
(wrongly) I was writing only to him and he would understand the nuanced
English. I forget that a lot of folks who don't speak it as a first
language tend to --no matter how fluent they are -- take it literally and
can't see the tongue-in-cheek from the context of the remark.. Maybe
that's why 90% of the world's great literature is written in English,
because one can impart so many hidden or different meanings with the same
words.. I don't know.. just a guess.

In any event, if you take what I said literally, it is really kinda
pathetic. I didn't mean it literally, and will watch my ass in the
future..

Just an aside, but it's been my impression that questions/comments in this
NG were talking about the look and feel of pages/sites and not anything
technical. Specifically, the page in question didn't really look like it's
designed by a 10 yr old. More like a high schooler or someone's first try
at it without the advantage of even Frontpage--which some sites that *some*
of us do tend to look like. He was just trying to show his pal what the
website community thought about the look/feel of his(the pal's) site. So,
I thought a little hyperbole on my part was warranted. Well, in the
context that folks read this NG all over the civilized world, I was wrong
and do apologize if I offended anyone..

Cheers!

Bruce
