Default What is your editor? - 10-25-2004 , 09:05 AM

Dear Critiquers,

I have been working on webdesign as a hobby for a couple of years and am now
moving into the realm of working at it professionally. I have noticed with
CSS etc. that I have been moving away from doing much of my work in WYSIWYG
to doing it mostly in the code side of the editor. I can see that since I
have to spend so much time previewing anyway that I should just do away with
the heavy handed and resource intensive MM-DW and move to a lighter code
based editor. So here follows my question...

What Windows compatible editors are you using and why?

Sincerely,

Jay Gilmore

I can recommend the HTML-Kit.
Free to download at: www.chami.com
Lots of plugins and also newsgroups at: news.chamisplace.com
Chami is always fast and to the point.

Crimson Editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com

Free, easy to use, easily configurable to be the default IE source viewer,
color-context display, template support, limited FTP built in.

Notepad.

It's free. It works. What more could you want?

regards.

A lot more.
Easy insert images, errorcontrol, built-in FTP, META-tags, lots of plugins
etc. etc.
Take a look at www.chami.com for the HTMML-Kit and you wil come to the
conclusion that notepad is just an editor with no extras at all.

NoteTab Light as main editor. Free, fast, easy to learn, but quite a few
extra features to make things easier. I also have written a couple of
sed scripts for common formatting operations. (Free, fast, quite
powerful, though not very easy to learn.)

I did used: TextPad, NoteTab, EditPad Lite, notepad, dphp editor.
They are easy to handle. Now a days, I use emacs on my Linux/Mandrake
machine.

The best thing is to find an editor that you like best and feel happy
with it.
I can only suggest to visit the following link:

How about syntactic highlighting, for one?
