Default Step by step - 11-30-2003 , 10:34 PM

The latest version so far: http://www.nicoschuyt.nl/ontwerp
Changes:
- Added all the pages
- Draft of the content
- One picture for the hover effect in the main menu instead of two
- Different technique for positioning of menu and content box
- Extra attention for accessibility (like access keys and an extra link "go
to menu" on top)
- Tested extensively in IE6, Mozilla1.4, Opera7.2 and Lynx
- Site search with keywords (not complete)
Problems (known :-):
- In Lynx special characters like ë, é etc are not rendered correctly.
- The picture left on top displays to slowly because it's part of the menu
at the end of the coding.

Your comments are appreciated :-)
Nico
BTW FP again. Even frames are used :-)

I can't find anything wrong with it. Look good. I like the artwork, where
did you steal that from :-)

When is the English version due. I want to read what you're up to.

OH MY &deity!

http://www.nicoschuyt.nl/ontwerp/wie_ben_ik.php

Is that you ? And just *look* at that desk. You're not a computer geek at
all, you are one of those <shudder> tidy </shudder> people. What happens if
you get thirsty or hungry. There are no left-over pizzas or coke cans on
that desk *anywhere*.

Frontpage is a usefull editor *in the right hands*, such as yours. In the
hands of the novice/newbie it can be a disaster.

Cheers

Nico - the images on your portfolio page totalled 129K, which made for very slow
loading on dial-up. The thumbnails are around 13 - 17K each when they could easily be
less than 5K.

Strange, you're the third one suggesting it's not mine. Seems like a guy
named Leo did something similar. I refuse to pay any attention to those
absurd insinuations of course.

That's the advantage of being Dutch. No one has the slightest idea what kind
of nonsense we write. About as effective as PGP :-)

The appropriate answer is "It took me a day to clean my desk" but, I must
admit, I *am* tidy. Not really in my nature, but if I don't I'll drown in an
enormous mess.

I disagree with that. It should be "In the hands of the novice/newbie it
*will* be a disaster".

Thanks for the critique!

You're right of course. Somehow I find it difficult to reduce the size and
(a little bit of) the quality. In fact I started with an average of 25K and
reduced them in 3 steps to what they are now. The final version will be
around the 5K you suggested :-)
Thanks!
Nico

I was being a bit tounge->cheek. If you stole them you found a good source.
If they are yours then they are very good :-)

Hmmm. I have a dutch bloke just up the road. Maybe if I slip him a slab of
beer ...

Great!! I'm missing however the most interesting thing on that picture i.e
*you* :-)
Perhaps a good idea if the regulars in this ng (finally) show who they are.
Maybe even a webcam? I'd love to see Bonnie for example :0

That explains why you still use CRT! The LCD-types have serious problems
when licked :-)

*Always* work from the original images though, NOT from the ones you've already
resized, as the quality from those being opened and then compressed to 5K will be
awful.

Steve.
