I just discovered it yesterday, completely by chance, when I happened
to Google to see how a new project is ranking. Instead, I found my
name pop up in this forum. Curious, I followed the link, and realized
that they were just archiving usenet posts and passing them off as
their own content. Not just them, either. There's at least 2 sites
doing this. (Search for your usenet name or email on Goolge and see
what comes up!).
Scary... 144 hits :-)

I think if I see any more posts from these places I'll politely inform the
poster what is going on and tell them to get a real newsreader rather than
use some scam website that is probably making money by stealing usenet.

Cheers
Richard.

Yes i do know what usenet is and NO, it's stated nowhere on the forums
website that we are actually posting to usenet, so sorry. If i knew it
was in the html group, i wouldn't have posted jpegs ...
I suggest you do not use that website any more. It is merely stealing its
content directly from usenet. All of it. There is nothing original on that
site at all. Even the 'forum' entitled "frontpage programming" (picking the
first web design one) is actually microsoft.public.frontpage.programming. I
wonder what Bill thinks about that? :-)

Cheers
Richard.

We seem to be getting a lot of these lately. I'm curious - don't the
folks posting through here know they are posting to usenet? Do they
even know what usenet is?
doubt it

Go and have a look at the above URL. It looks like a privately run
forum. You will find alt.html.critique way down the bottom, in the
"Community Forum" box, labeled as "Site Ratings & Reviews". Nowhere,
anywhere, does it mention that the material inside that "forum" is
actually stolen from alt.html.critique, or that there actually *is*
an alt.html.critique.
tricky - there are plenty sites that provide an interface to usenet.

No wonder the people from there no nothing about usenet.

Hmmm. What is more bloody bizarre is that google give this site a 5/10
rating. 5 out of ten for repackaging content that is, more or less,
in the public domain :-)
The google ranking is derived entirely from the pages linking to that page.
The forum only has a PR of 4. The thread has a PR of 0. Maybe the thread
will get a decent PR after the site is next crawled. There may be some
benefit after all ;o)

I imagine all the other subject areas are posting to usenet, too.
The majority of them, for sure. A quick Google Groups search for the
above phrase turned up 314 results - on the first 5 pages I counted at
least 15 groups that had been posted to. There may be more.

There are 26 forums listed there. I found the first 15 on Usenet without
any trouble. I'd be inclined to agree with you that the remaining 11 are
probably usenet groups as well.

Good thing registration is free, or it would be an even bigger rip off.
Indeed.
