Default Site Critique - 10-25-2006 , 07:20 AM

Hello,

I'm interested in opinions and suggestions about the layout and design
of my website, http://www.tintedmist.com. If this is the wrong place to
post this, my appologies. The site is built with php and uses templates
for the header and footer sections.

Thanks!

Dan

@h48g2000cwc.googlegroups.com:

If you really want comments etc. about layout and design, choose a
newsgroup with "site-design" in the name, otherwise be prepared for replies
mentioning the lack of validation (despite your assertion to the contrary!)

Hi,
I'd apply some padding to the right hand side, your menu looks cramped.
Why are you using a table? I dont see a reason to.
Your logo is hard to read.
Your proud that your site passes validation, do you think your customers
care?

Thanks Paul,

Your right about te padding, I added some to the side to make it look
better.

I tried using straight div's for the entire layout, but couldn't get it
to align correctly.

I was shooting for something like this:
_________________
Quote:
Title_____________|
____________Links|
Side | Content |
| |
| |
| |
____ |___________|
_____Footer______|
I could get the footer to go to the bottom, but when there was more
content than 1 page, the footer would overlap the content and side.
Otherwise I'd wind up with the content coming after the side. So...I
cheated a bit and used a table to hold the side and content, the rest
is all divs.

I'm still working on the logo for the site, but thanks for the
feedback.

I had fought for a while with the validation, so I was a bit proud of
myself ;-). But you're right, my customer's most likely care if it
passed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Dan

Gee whiz, I hope not.

Hint: don't use the tab key or a proportional font to draw ASCII art.

Hi.
Your site is not bad at all, although I suggest a few minor things.
You need to use a better colour for the hover effect on links, the blue
is hard to read on the dark BG. I would also that you could set the
underline on hover, but you don't have to.
I can also understand why you use a table for the images, it's easier
then useing div's, although I would not recomend doing so.
Anyway, I hope that helps.

It is clear what you are selling, there are clear pictures of them, and
it is clear how I would buy one if I wanted to. Full marks for all
that. I am always surprised how many sites get these things wrong.

Just a few small criticisms. The grey bar at the bottom of the page
does nothing for your legal rights, it just looks (imho) ugly. If I
were thinking of buying one of those ornaments, I would want to know its
size. And, if I did buy one, would you really post it to me here in
Europe for free?
