Default Request for website critique - 05-13-2004 , 09:01 PM

Please critique this site:

http://www.lozierenv.com/

I'm especially interested if any combination of browser/operating system
displays the site in some mangled fashion. The following screen capture
shows what the site is supposed to look like (IE 6 / Win 98 SE):

http://www.astrocyte-design.com/lozier.gif

I'm aware of the debate regarding tables vs. CSS for layout, so I'd prefer
not to get into that discussion. I'm also aware that the site doesn't fully
validate.

Thanks.

I am using Win 98/IE 6 - please check your site at View>Text
Size>Larger/Largest. The pixel perfect layout is gone. I did not look at
your code - perhaps valid code would eliminate this phenomena. (Layout is
liquid enough at smaller sizes.)

BTW, it looks real good at the "correct" view/window size.

I have one suggestion from a business standpoint, you may want to move your
links to your other pages toward the top. If I am a potential customer
looking for a person who can analyze a mod problem in my building, I would
have to scroll to the bottom of your first page to see that you may do that.
I think it would be good if you had a line across the top of that first page
for the mold, asbestos, food/water, and services links. A customer may
not want to read through all the verbage on the first page to find those
links - they may not scroll down to see them.

As an aside, I am heading back to upstate in mid June (currently in AZ) to
my home in Bristol. I am hoping that this year's summer will be warm and
sunny!

Just a few thoughts about users who will not be using graphical browsers
(i.e. text-only browsers, talking browsers, screen-readers, etc.):

(a) Some alternative text needed:

(b) Headers needed on a table:

- also:
(i) 'summary' needed on the table,
(ii) space between word and * or ** -- some readers will spell out
(rather than speak) the word if there is no space.

(c) Problem if words marked up with <b></b> on initial letter.

To me it looks like a press release, or an internal page. I don't get
the understanding that i am at the beginning of a web site. what are
my options? where can i go? I have to scroll down for links but even
then they don't "look" like navigation links. more important things go
bigger towards the top, less important things go smaller towards the
bottom. navigation is mucho important on a web site, so I will second
what Sharon said about some navigation links at the top.
