Nix the tables for layout bit. Tables should be used for tabular data
only. Also nix the spacer.gif. These things are what CSS is for.

Any reason why you opted for embedded style sheets as opposed to linked?

What do I use in place of tables? What do I use in place of a
spacer?

You can use divs as containers instead of tables and spacers, though if
you aren't very CSS savvy, your first attempt can be very daunting.
Surf the web, there are dozens of CSS Positioning tutorials out there if
you need help.

Laziness... ) I also made changes to some of the CSS styles on
each page.. I cheated I guess.. Instead of making drastic changes, I
just changed the layout slightly, and made changes to the syle sheet..
IIRC. this is evident when you click on the "more news" section. I
just litterally copied the listing from the news headlines (right
sidebar) and placed it in the left or "main" table.. Then I
specified a different style, and had it draw essentially the same
thing only bigger.. I guess it was cut and paste..

I don't pretend to be a web design expert.. The less time I can spend
on it means more time for coding the app.. But at the same time, the
site needs to look good since it is sort of a demo of the product
itself.. Or at least people might think as much.. (technically it
isn't but ... )

I suppose I will change to a single CSS style page.. That seems to
make more sense, in retrospect.

Linked CSS will save you time and bandwidth. For a site this big, its
definitely the way to go.
