Default Desperately Seeking Critique - 08-24-2007 , 06:39 AM

Would gratefully appreciate critical critiquing of the home page at:

http://www.neredbojias.com/

particularly the bloggie-thingy at the bottom of the page. I'd like to put
a lock on this page so I could move on to other things I haven't thought of
yet. Thanks very much.

I really dislike the links not showing on hover or visited. It took me a
bit to see if they were separate links or just an entry page (one
massive link). If I visit a page and come back with that many links I
will not remember which I have visited. As soon as I hit the same page
twice - I am gone - too frustrating.

The page seems a bit too long for my taste (of lack thereof). It has a
good look/feel to it but I do not understand what (if anything) you are
selling.

You squash a whole thousand line blog into an 800x400 div?

It's at the bottom of the page, it's downloaded anyway, why not let it all
be visible and scalable to the width of my canvas?

Google for Jukkas "links want to be links".

Is that a picture of dorayme up there? :-)

Perhaps add some text above the bloggie-thingy e.g. Can't use html tags
and links.
For the index page. Put style sheet in an external file, also for the
cookies and javascript.

Web page speed test.

Yes, -visited links. I believe you are the first one to mention that
(referring to the past) and I expected it to be a biggy.

Well, I shall dabble accordingly. Visited links _are_ beneficial, but I
can be rather pompous in the so-called graphic design area and don't
particularly like random off-colors strewn about haphazardly. Still, the
issue will be addressed.

As for underlining, forget it. Not saying that's right, but it's what
will be.

Not selling anything. It's a "fun" site, just for users. I grok a bit
of confusion from its lack of theme but also think more sites should be
like it.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Well, the line-length is at least as long as the typical
newsreader/newsgroup postings. I'll admit it's a little stubby and have
thought of increasing the height some, though. Would that be satisfactory
or do you have a superior reason for increasing the width as well?

I know - underlining, ya dada dada. I don't like underlining; it makes the
page look like a zebra with ricketts. Not saying I'm right...

Nope. It's a guy. You can have it if you wish.

Okay...although you typically can't in blogs as far as I know because it
could be a security/integrity issue. (But then again, I'm no expert on
blogs.)

One thing I'm confused about. Wouldn't an external style sheet actually
make the page take _longer_ to load than otherwise? I can't see how it
would make loading time any shorter. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter
to me. I don't have any other similar pages, so its facility as a
template is meaningless.

Interesting website... 30k for home page images seems a little spartan
to me, though, but I do like the site
