The site we are talking about is www.itexperience.ro

It is intended to promote a company that builds complex web
applications. This is why it is not stuffed with effects and pictures.
Please excuse that I don't have an English version yet
Thank you

andrei,

The first thing I notice is that it doesn't fit in my 800px wide window.

The second thing I notice is that there are links embedded in the
paragraphs of text, but they look just like other text in the same
paragraphs (bold) that is NOT a link, i.e. I can't tell, without moving
the mouse over them, which words are links and which are not.

The third thing I notice is that I have a lot of other stuff to do right
now. Sorry.

Chris Beall

are you *really* using an 800x600 resolution?

What does resolution have to do with it? It is just as likely to be
an 800x1200 window on a 1600x1200 resolution screen.

In an 800x919 window, I get a horizontal scroll bar instead.

make no mistake, i understand your point (yours too Mr. Shagnasty).

but realistically, if your browswer window is 800px wide (while your
desktop resolution is larger) and your browser is presenting you with a
horizontal scroll bar - you're going to tell me you're not going to make
your browser window a bit wider???

i understand trying to hit/fit the 800px width, but in terms of real
life usage, people will make their browsers wider (at least i will).

It doesn't matter what his resolution is. Monitor resolution is
unimportant. His *browser* window is 800 pixels wide. Mine are
normally between 750 and 900 px wide (and maybe 800px tall), and I
frequently have two of them side by side on my widescreen monitor. Or
a browser and my editor.
exactly. so the horizontal scrollbar that appeared with your browser
window at 800px will be gone when you change it to 820px.

you're a seasoned internet user, so when you're browsing with
your 750px wide window and you reach a website that requires a larger
width (either due to a scrollbar or just bad text formatting), do you
increase your browser width without a second thought, or do you close it
and curse the website?

alls im saying is that it's really not that big a deal in the day and
age, in my opinion at least.

How wide is my PDA screen?
that's a rather personal question! just a joke.

anyways, a page designed with good CSS won't have an issue with either.

I don't change my browser window size for every site I go to. It's a bit
arrogant to suggest I should make an exception for your site. You'd have
to have exceptional content for that to happen.

If you make a flexible design, it would adapt to whatever the user's
window size is.

You are overly optimistic. People are much more likely to set their
browser window to 1 size and leave it at that.
