Default Site Check Please - 11-21-2006 , 08:08 PM

We are finishing the design at http://blog.jordanbarab.com and would
like feedback on the design ONLY please.

So far, we've tested with:
- Win2k/FF v1.5x
- Win2k/IE6
- Win2k/Netscape v7.2
- Win2k/Opera v7.5x
- Knoppix 3.7/Konqueror v3.3.1
- Knoppix 3.7/Mozilla v1.7.3

We are especially looking for IE7, FF2, and Safari feedback, but any
other weird combination of OS/browser is appreciated as well.

Links to screenshots illustrating observed problems as well as
descriptions are wanted, for IE7 and FF2 since our XP machine needs
to be rebuilt. We do not (yet) have a Mac here.

Seamonkey v1.1.
The light brown on dark red (and black on dark gray) is a bit hard to
read, especially since the font size is set so low (13px, 80% of my
preferred). The contrast is limited.

Loads of validations errors. You have randomly mixed HTML and XHTML
syntax. Regardless of the DTD chosen ([X]HTML strict or transitional),
there are 80 - 95 errors. Correcting those reduces the variations of
presentation among browsers. Design for HTML Strict.

The site is slow to load.

About 12% of the page is off-screen on my 600 X 800 desktop, yet
starting a little below the midpoint of the page both the left and right
columns are blank. I can tolerate unused space on the screen, but I
shouldn't have to scroll horizontally to see the page.

I personally think the page is too tall. It's a loooong scroll from top
to bottom. I'd split some of the content into separate pages.

There's a rather large block of space for a video player that simply
says "YouTube". Nothing playing in it. So I clicked the Play button
and got spits of .5 - 2 seconds of video and audio, separated by about
10-second periods of silence. I'm on a 56Kb dialup line...
