Default Music / Review / Discussion website - 04-16-2004 , 03:40 PM

I'd like a harsh critique of http://www.golisten.co.uk/

Especially an "article" page, for example
http://www.golisten.co.uk/retrieve.php?messageID=640 - these are the
pages most of my new visitors come to, (through Google) yet they never
seem to stay - and certainly don't post. I know a lot of this is
probably down to content but having the design ripped to shreds can
only help, eh!

Probably because they can't read it.

body {
margin: 0 0 0 0;
font-family: Verdana,Arial,Sans-Serif;
font-size:.7em; <---- I certainly can't read it
color:#000000;
}

Change the font size to: 100% instead of the .7em.

The orange on [whatever that background is] is also extremely hard to
read.

I'll repeat Beauregard's concern, as I was about to post on it -
font-size: 100% is what you ought to use. It will be more easily read.

A piece of advice - don't name divs "right" and "left" - give names that
relate to the content within. That way, if you ever want to redesign, the
names will remain meaningful.

Yes, I agree. I'm not motivated to change my text size to see the
microscopic text.
But I did so just to see the design. I'd break up the paragraphs into
smaller paragraphs. You need "white space." There's a good chance visitors
are not only not staying, but not even reading it because of the font size.
Otherwise, I think it's pretty decent to look at. And yes, the orange is
hard to read.
