Default Math Data - 02-04-2004 , 01:57 PM

I'm guessings short of using Images, if I want special characters like
Sigma or Mu I'm going to have to use MathXML. Are there any other
alternatives out there?

As that web site so succinctly points out, character codes do not have
universal acceptance across browsers. In fact, the use of the more
esoteric character codes results in a complete crap shoot for compatibility.

The better way would be to create your web pages as UTF-8, and use the
entities directly. That is, create an HTML file with NotePad, save it as
UTF-8 instead of ANSI or Unicode, and then use the alt-#### combination
to bring in the characters needed. Full Unicode characters (that do not
have an alt-#### code) can also be used by cutting and pasting them from
Character Map (My Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools).

Also note, NotePad can only create UTF-8 files under Windows NT (version
4.0, 5.0 "2000" or 5.1 "XP"). If you use the old DOS-based versions of
Windows (95, 98, ME), you're outta luck.

I hope this helps.
