I am a newbie when it comes to HTML, but learning.
Can anyone tell me if Adobe GoLive or (Adobe suite) would be a good
investment?

I am a graphic designer who is looking to start small web design, nothing
outrageous.

Thanks for any advice.
- Scott

Invest your time in learning (X)HTML and at least one server side
language (Perl, PHP, etc.) Download a free text editor with syntax
highlighting. Investigate FTP.

MB's advice is spot-on. I suggest trying Evrsoft's 1st Page (go with the
existing and very stable 1st Page 2000 or try beta 1stPage 2006 that has
better server side support for ASP and PHP).

http://evrsoft.com

Good luck.

No, it wouldn't. Graphical tools that generate HTML can help speed up the
process of writing HTML but they make a very poor substitute for *knowing*
HTML. Avoid them until you are well out of the "newbie phase" (then even
they its often best to avoid them).

Do not overload yourself.
Use the Macromedia Dreamweaver instead - the better tool. Golive going
to be so cool - but it still isnt managing.

Nope. Very Bad advice IMHO. We see so many pages come in here built by
somebody using [insert your favourite WYSIWYSG editor] and knowing no HTML
that are just plain bad.

You don't give an apprentice road builder a bulldozer untill he is quite
familiar with dirt and how to move it around with a shovel.
