I am nearly there, just a little help is needed

Dear good men/women,
I am not searching for tutorials for beginners (although I need them too in
order to achieve what I want) but just for advice about: how to make a page
that does not scrolls through all of the articles, but has on the home page
one article in the main box, and other articles hidden, which are brought
forth with a click.
Here is in Croatian my rant www.hrvatum.com just for looking through.
Another thing, I would like to buy a simple but nice template, into which I
could just copy/paste my stuff; I am starting to realize that the creation
of a good page on my own may be out of reach for me.
