The main problem with the old design is that the "home" page contains
practically no content. I think this is hitting my pagerank quite badly.
Definitely should have content on the first page.

It also looks vile when I print it out.
Have you looked into print stylesheets?

Hello,

I've just re-vamped my home pages, and I've got them looking fairly neat in
IE 5.1 on a Mac. However, I'd be interested in hearing how they appear in
other browsers and on other systems.

Here's the URL: http://www.japanesetranslator.co.uk/test/

Let me know what you think!

Cheers,

Phil
I didn't make it past your name on the first page. Which overlayed the
title. It views fine if I use the larger views. I'm using the latest
ie6 with w2k. You might want to fix that so people are not immediately
turned off.

Wish I'd known that at the time :-(

Yes, but are they supported by many browsers? I think it'll be a while
before it's safe to assume that most visitors will be using browsers that
can handle them.

This was an "experimental" approach. Now binned :-)

Have you tried removing the width altogether? What happens then?
The whole thing squishes down to the width of the menu buttons, so I get
that white block at the top right again.

BTW: In IE6, the headings "Philip Ronan" and "Freelance Japanese
Translator" overlap. You name seems to be getting pushed down by the
image next to it.
I was trying to insert the image with a "list-style-image" rule, but it
seems that a lot of browsers can't handle large images in this way. I'm
using a different approach now, so this should be fixed.

Cheers,

Phil

Depends what you mean by "support". Most browsers[1] will happily apply a
second style sheet containing different styles for printing, however there
are some special CSS jobbies for controlling pages breaks, specifying page
sizes and such that aren't supported very well except in Opera 6+.

[1] IE 3+ (or perhaps 4+?), Netscape 4+, Opera 3.6+, etc.

NS4 doesn't support media other than screen. IE3 doesn't support print,
but IE4 does. Apparently O3.6 doesn't either, but I don't know when it
was first supported.

Still, the point still stands that it is supported in by far the
majority of browsers out there today.

ahhh. You're site is very nice. Artistic, clean, not too busy and not
too sparse. It's just plain beautiful. I wish I had your eye for
colors and such.

You're contacts page though seems to need a bit of work. Again using
IE6 on W2K the form elements keep going farther and farther to the
right.

Hi,

Your site looks nice to me, I use Mozilla Firebird.
The fonts appear a little big, but that's not necessarily
a bad thing.. Do you use a Mac? The whole site reminds
me a bit of Apple type things.

One thing, might be an obvious question, why don't you
have copy of your site in Japanese?? Be a good way of
demonstrating a dual language site.

Regards

Michael

Peculiar :-/

I'll look into that. Thanks for the tip.
