Default hello all - 09-25-2007 , 05:49 PM

Totally new to this part of using the www
It was suggested I try posting some things to a web page for others
to view. Having (YEARS ago) once been able to program some I fired
up my browsers 'build a web page' software and gave it a go.
It looks ok and works as I envisioned it should after several days
of fumbling around. It does as it was intended when I look at the
code with my browser on my PC locally.
I also tried several different ways to achieve the same results.
Yups I read somewhere that tables might not be a nice way to go,
so I did a page setup with tables, and a page setup that doesn't
use tables.
Basically I want to show a group of small images and either by a
clicklink show a larger version or by a hover and zoom method.
So I built one of each that look ok here.
Practice, Practice, and much trial and error, at least I have been
chewing up serious keyboard commando time.
BUT
And there usually is always a BUT for raw beginners I guess, when
I uploaded the files needed to go live things fell apart.
I tried to have a screen with a group of images, when going to the
hosted files via the proscribed 'put a url in your browser' it only
loads a few of the images, major bummers! The place where I had to
load everything shows they are all there.
So I created an abreviated html file and tried that, it too failed
when looked at online vs local. It looks ok in the 4 different
webpage builders I tried it in, Netscape Composer, NVU v1.0
SeaMonkeys Composer, and Webbuiler 2007.

this is the abreviated version with out the links set and with out
the zoom feature.
I was trying to troubleshoot the problem of not displaying all the
images.
If I need a big hammer to cram in my mistake(s) I'm ready for the abuse!

Would anyone be willing to point out the error of my ways, remembering
this doesnt have to be 'professional' just work!

this is the link for the hover and zoom, which works when done locally.

in this link the 2 browsers I tried looking at it with dont show
the small images but the zoom function does its thing right when the
cursor
is hovered over the position of the smaller image location

thanks!!

The missing images are *.JPG. When you uploaded them, they were re-set
to *.jpg. Sometimes the simplest ones are the hardest to spot.

THANKS FOR SPOTTING THE ABERRATION, unfortunately for me the
problem seems to be the hosting place. I examined your findings
and you are right that it is a uppercase/lowercase problem.

I used lowercase for the file extensions, and in my html programming
efforts. Verified by several different examination efforts.

BUT the farten case was changed either while in the uploading process
or in the downloading process, I do not know exactly when yet.
A work around experiment validated the 'cure' but I was reading and
isn't it supposed to be lowercase' preferred in today's www???

I went ahead and changed the file extensions to uppercase and ta-da
I spy stuff now. This was after forcing lowercase in my html files,
only to see them returned as uppercase when I viewed raw after accessing
them with a browser online.

In Windows, the case is displayed as lower, or properly capitalized, but
the actual case might be upper or a combination. There is a setting in
Windows to allow/disallow this, but I forget where.

T try to be sure I enter the characters in the case that I want. Never
take the "default" offered.

If you're using Linux or other OS, disregard this.

After several sessions of Test, revise, Upload, TEST, everything now
has stayed as it should have, only ONE case, all lower, and the
resultant
2 html files I left on the host are working as I hoped.
(crossing fingers, retesting right now)

so

http://users.ameritech.net/paulholm/jcpinsz.html
(took the CAPS out of the html file name also)

and

http://users.ameritech.net/paulholm/nev.html

should display as designed (good bad or otherwize design wize)
at least for me and the browsers I tested with.

Any problems now for others???
