Default Critque my design - 08-26-2006 , 07:35 PM

After a couple of months of attempting and re-starting from scratch many
times, I've finally done a simple design that could be a future layout
for a (new) site that I've been trying to plan for a while.

Critque away!

Critque away!
Hi Mark,

I thought the site look very clean & modern. It was a very light page
that loaded quickly. I might 'borrow' the idea of the visited links
changing to italic, I loved that little touch :-)

Can I suggest only a small thing? (I am sure that others will make
more extensive suggestions!!). Could I suggest that you lose the 'back
to the top' link in your footer? I have always felt that this only has
a place in exceptionally long pages and even then I have a few doubts.

While we are down there does the phrase 'All rights reserved' have
any legal / moral meaning? If you have some legal reservations about
your work would you consider putting these on a single page, perhaps
linked from your footer?

But overall I loved the look. I was a little curious: if you have
been 'Saving the world since 2005' what you were up to before this?

All the best,

Andrew.

Crit[i]que away!
Other than the missing background color (I see my ugly default purple,
which clashes with your layout), it looks good and clean, except:

Why are all the headings set to a font-size of 100%?
Why is the content set to only 90%? This should be 100%, and the
headings should be larger.

I forgot 'bout that, -_-

I will set it a little higher, then. ok?

As I said in a previous thread, it looks too big on my screen (16px
default)
I will experiment and update.

Didn't see that.

Then you should set your own browser to something smaller; something you
like. By using 100%, you present all visitors with their default - what
they prefer. Why penalize the visitors because your browser is set too
large? How does it look in other browsers on your workstation (which may
have different defaults)?

You saw the samples on my page for h1, h2 etc?

I did, and not too long ago I've changed the font sizes accordingly, as
well as taking out "Verdana" from the H1 font rule.

Very good. I think it looks much nicer now. Easy to read.

Have you ever considered a slightly off-white color for the background,
less stark? Perhaps:

background-color: #dfdfdf; or #f5f5f5; ?

Lots of choices here: http://www.somacon.com/p142.php

Yes, you have ignored this advice before. For some reason you refuse to
adjust the default size in your browser and prefer to annoy your visitors.
