Default Critique website template please - 04-02-2005 , 06:45 PM

Hi I am trying to do a website template for a friend. we both traveled the
world and are tying to set up a website with job resources in all continents
including Antarctica.

Coming from a network and desktop support background I am brand new to CSS
and fairly new to HTML.

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Anyways the link is www.nomadicworker.com

Thanks,

Robert

Why is this new document transitional instead of strict?

68 errors.
<http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A//www.nomadicworker.com/>

Don't use pixels for font size, use em. Don't use Verdana.

Several other CSS errors. The CSS validator won't scan it until the
HTML is fixed. http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator-uri.html
div align="left"; is incorrect.
align: "center"; is incorrect.

Oh, this one will, shows the errors.
http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/csscheck.cgi

The overly-large banner graphic is partially covered up by a white
area. The headings between paragraphs are way too tiny. Please remove
the jumping links on the left, very distracting.

Firefox 1.0.2 on Win2K.

See if you can get www.nomadic-worker.com. The engines will see that
as two words one meaning nomadic and the other as worker.
nomadicworker they will see as another different word with no
relationship to the other two.

Further to what that Shagnasty individual wrote: you have external links
without the http:// part. In short, when someone clicks on a link
thinking they're going somewhere else, they'll get a 404 error from
http://www.nomadicworker.com/www.dice.com. All of those vertical listed
links are like this and you'll need to correct them.

Image preloading via Javascript is nonsense. Attractive rollover effects
can be achieved using CSS without resorting to old hat image mouseovers.
Disable javascript (and images) and your navigation list just became
useless.

The centre links font is too small.

Cheers

Why buy one? Plenty of inspiration to be found on the WWW and lots of
source to look at to see how it was done. Inpsire is the key here, not
plagiarise or imitate.
