I would love to hear some thoughts on https://www.sabrehealth.com.
I've pretty much just taught myself, and am anxious to hear what some
of you pros think.

Many thanks for your time.

Since I have individual health insurance, I was interested in what
you're selling. One thing that is not obvious, though, is *where* you
serve. Is it for Canadians only? If so, why don't you have a .ca domain
instead of .com? Regardless, don't be ambiguous about this or bury that
kind of info on some other page.

Many of your links take me off-site unexpectedly. I don't like such
surprises - it makes me distrust you a little. That is very bad for a
service such as yours.

Regarding some stylistic issues...

The navigation button colors are confusing. Across the top are buttons
in 3 different colors for Travel, Group and Individual. When I first
went to the home page, the buttons down the side were the same color as
Travel. This leads me to believe the buttons down the side would change
depending on which top button was chosen, but that is not the case.
Since there isn't anything on the Group page corresponding to the orange
button color (or purple for Individual), I suggest using a single color
for the top buttons and another for the side.

I don't really like the purple text color. Black would be more
professional, and you do want to come off as respectable as possible.

The buttons down the left column that have the "SABRE" in the corner are
hard to read. You need more vertical space so they don't look so
squished up. The SABRE logo is also fuzzy. Or is it supposed to look
like that?

Why do you have today's date at the top of the page? I already have a
calendar on my PC, as does everyone else. It serves no useful purpose,
so best to be rid of it.

I only went to a few pages, but these are things that struck me right away.

Stupidly small font size.

Fixed width.

SSL? Are you protecting your "one man business"? Your viewers simply would
not care, unless it's the page they type their credit card number onto.

That date up the top. It's incorrect, a day behind. It's the date on your
server isn't it. It's already Thursday over here :-)

Thank you all so much for your time and thoughts.

I will lose the date and plastic buttons, replacing the latter with
CSS. (I was using that before, but IE didn't render them properly...
still learning about that.)

The SSL is my client's preference and isn't negotiable. Actually, when
customers are signing up and logging in to track claims, I think
they'll feel reassured by the padlock.

John, I am at a loss as to why the supplied link didn't work for you.
I have improvised a PHP script to redurect users to https from http;
could this affect some browsers?

Richard, why do you object to a fixed width page?

Thank you all again.

Beauregard,

Thank you for your time and help.

Please learn to quote. Thanks.
Sorry.

Do you have a sample page with your effort with CSS so far?
Like an idiot, I discarded it, although I'll try to find an older
backup I may have made...all I can tell you is that the CSS flyout
menus, which worked nicely in Firefox, appeared _below_ the page
content in IE. I tried to correct it by adjusting the z-index of each,
but to no avail. Due to time pressure I caved in and just went over to
images. I realize this is highly imperfect solution and now that the
site is up I can try again.

Yikes. Thank you for the screenshot and links.

You are not Transitioning from old legacy pages, right? New pages should
be Strict (and probably HTML 4.01 Strict, not XHTML - google these
groups for the oft-discussed reasons).
I certainly will. I was under the impression that the "transition" was
for older browsers...God, I have so much to learn.

Thank you again.

Seems to be a problem with proxies. It seems I can't access *any* https
page. In any case, it's definitely on my end, so don't worry yourself.
