And another misspelling of the villa's name on the Contact Us page:

Caslavista Villa Spain - Contact Us

Grrr... Spanish and typing never were my strong points!!!

But... but... ? If that is true, what about your domain name? Isn't that a
mistake too?

Any critical (or otherwise) comments would be appreciated. I've done my
best to make the site conformable, accessible and use CSS for layout.
Its only a simple site and I'm quite happy with it so far, but I'm sure
improvements can be made, so let me know what you think, before I show
it to my client..

Thanks.

You have layout problems when you increase the size of your text:
IE6

http://www.gododdin.demon.co.uk/ng/UT04X.JPG (39k)

Opera

Netscape

(b)
Check your text for missing punctuation

ps. At the bottom of the page you have:
xhtml - css - 508 - aaa

Are you inviting your users to go and read up on the subjects (assuming
they've any idea what it's about) -- or are you claiming conformity to
the standards?

I think you know the answer to that.... claiming conformity, at least
that will be the plan when it's finished and the main reason for asking
for a critique here.

Maybe it would be better to leave off the 508 and AAA conformity
statements until your pages actually conform ;-)

Yep.... Any suggestions about what doesn't conform at the moment.... It
passes the automatic conformity tests, but they obviously can't check
everything.

There are no 'automatic conformity tests'.

You have just got to get down to checking each of your pages that claims
conformity against the specifications.

Try these:

http://www.webaim.org/standards/508/checklist

Sorry .... but there's just no other way.

I disagree. Personally, I don't like mail forms because I don't
get a copy of the message.

Supply both mailto: links and a form, then your visitor has a
choice.

Add cc:me to the form so the user can choose to have a copy of the
message sent to them. That's in addition to the mailto.
A cc: opens up the form to a visitor with malicious intent. I could
fill it out with YOUR email address, and annoy you no end. <g>

My solution is to return a page with the form info displayed, suitable
for printing. So far, the only sites I know of that do this ... are
mine. :-)

I agree, automatic conformity tests can't test everything, for a start
they can't tell if text over a background image is readable, but they
can check certain things such as whether or not alternative text exists
for multimedia elements, if tabindex controls exist and even if text
over a coloured background has suitable contrast (among lots of other
things), so one of the automatic conformity testers is a good place to
start (if only because they provide you with exactly the same list of
specifications in the links you provided).

In a way, until there is a way of checking things automatically (or
getting individuals from an accessibility governing body to check them
for you) then checking the specifications manually will surely be a
slightly subjective pastime. For instance, having Alternative text for
images is pointless if the text is meaningless, deciding what the best
possible alt text for a particular image is will always be subjective.

What Beauregard said.

Further, as an author I don't like the spam that mailto: links collect,
and as a user I don't like links to start external applications in new
windows (keep it in the canvas, please).

Better than nothing... <g>

Firstly, I rarely print anything. If I saved the web page instead,
it couldn't be combined with sent messages in my mail client, so it
would probably just get lost or forgotten.

For me, mailto: is always best. It would be quite a different
matter if I used webmail, though.
I do also have a mailto link on all my contact pages. Nobody ever uses
them.
