This is my first crack at a website, http://www.lococitato.com

I'd value any advice/criticism/suggestions you have.

Thanks in advance,

Overall looks are quite good, I think.

1. I see use of Verdana and a fixed font size.
http://k75s.home.att.net/fontsize.html
2. The h1 is smaller than the h2.
3. JavaScript is spelled with those capital letters.
4. There is a grocer's apostrophe in: Linux distro's
5. The site-mapping tool gets confused by one of my fairly
simple sites, countryrode.com
6. Why is JavaScript needed for the "Map!" button?
7. There doesn't seem to be any link to get back to the main
page.

It looks good (the hidden Google ads is no loss:

However, if I remove the minimum font-size from my browser, the
text is unreadably small. Remove fixed px sizing of fonts.

- For new pages [X]HTML Strict should be used.
- When the viewport is narrowed the main header ("In the place previously
sited...") wraps. None of the content below it moves down so eventually
the header wraps into the content.
- "automaically" should be "automatically".

Great stuff guys.

The mandarin speakers website is run by my wife really, although
clearly there is some overlap. But yeah, perhaps my 1.5 site.

I'll try and reply in the order comments were made.

Beauregard T. Shagnasty:

1. I didn't know about the fixed font stuff, thanks for the link.

I'll sort out 2, 3, 4.

5. Is interesting I think it's because the links on your main page are
relative to http://www.countryrode.com/main/index.php rather than
http://www.countryrode.com. At least if you put the former in it works.

I'll work on it and add it to my test cases. Cheers.

6. Perhaps there is a better way, but the action of the button is
different depending on whether you have already scanned the site or
whether you're just making cosmetic changes. I also had some trouble
with pressing the Enter key on some browsers causing it to automically
submit a form I didn't want.

7. There is, but obviously it's not obvious enough :-). I'll try and
make something better.

Chris F.A. Johnson:

Many thanks. Will do.

Andrew:

The server is being a bit odd. Typical, it works fine for months now
throws a wobble.

Jim Moe:

- For new pages [X]HTML Strict should be used.

I'll look into this. I was a bit wary about this as I didn't know much
about it.

- When the viewport is narrowed the main header ("In the place
previously
sited...") wraps. None of the content below it moves down so eventually
the header wraps into the content.

Thanks. I'll see if I can fix it

- "automaically" should be "automatically".

Whoops. Will do.

I'd just like to thanks again.

All the best,

Tom.

It looks dull... You need more colors maybe.

There's some div-itis.
The navigation is not semantically a bunch of nested divs, it is a list.

And then, the back-flips you're going through just to get rounded
corners and a bit of shading... Wouldn't it be a better use of your time
to spend more time on images if you want good visuals, and forget about
the stuff that makes your markup hard to read and keep up. Get out the
Gimp and start playing.

You may well be right, looking at I think the webmapper icon is a bit
plain too.

I'll think about it, cheers.
