Default Critique - of course - 12-25-2006 , 08:29 PM

It's been almost a year since I've worked on this site - but family matters
have made me want to get back into it.

I've run w3c validation on several pages and (since it's almost 'templated'
I'm reasonably comfortable with *that* aspect). I'm not a programmer, nor
a web designer - and I know better than to ask you to be gentle but bear
in mind, I'm just trying to put something together for the family.

My main interest is in straightening (literally) some of the quirks that
inserting the letters into the text is causing. Any other suggestions
would be appreciated. ((I think....))

To munge an *email* address against harvesters -- makes sense.
Don't you want visitors to your website?

I can't understand the question. Text is made of letters.
I think we'll need something more specific.

I already get way too much span to webmaster at aljones dot us. Yes, I'd
like a few visitors; but can you blame me if I don't want any more spam
than I already get? For some reason the spammers seem to think that a
webmaster must be an undersexed underachiever from the mail I get - a
little of that is way too much, don't you think?

Oh, letters as in images of handwritten letters ( and diaries ) - from my
g-g-g-grandfather to his wife while he was in the War Between the States.

When the image of the letter is longer than the text (as I've transcribed
it) then the next image shifts to the right ... I've tried adjusting
borders, but since the image lies on the border it's not a lot of help -
and diferent people with different browsers will see it differently any way
- I need a way to stop that.

I'm using orb as a preprocessor so I can avoid the flap of having frames
(the index in the left pane plus most of the constant material is in
include files so easily changed). I'm still making changes to the letters
as I go along but should have enough there for you all to make critical
suggestions.

Thanks //al

I think you should munge the email address on the website, not the
location of the website! (A form should also be available, if possible.)

I like the way you're providing links to the
photos-of-handwritten-letters, which appear on completely different pages.
I still don't see the problem.

Can you give us a link to a subpage that actually shows the problem?

Your images are missing... :-)
I know I'm missing the image of the first letter - have to get the letters
back out ans rescan that one. I'll wait till I get the rest together
before I do that just in case I'm missing others.

Are there other images missing?? How about a little more detail, please.

Quick look; I made some global changes with topflite 5 - it looks like it
made some changes I didn't intend. Many of the "images\" became "\Images\"
- that's not impressive as *that* isn't the change I made.

Gonna have to pull files from backup and see if that was what made those
changes - if it is I'll just pull that program off the system. Don;t need
that type of hassle!
