Default Critique before change recommendation - 04-02-2005 , 06:15 PM

I hate a site I manage; I created it a while back while fairly new to
strict HTML and CSS, it validates, but is ugly:
http://singlesoterocounty.org/

I'd like a critique on a new look I've designed; I'll need approval from
the group leaders before making the change but want to get the look
really well done before suggesting it:
http://singlesoterocounty.org/index2.html

I put navigation on the right just to be a bit different.

My default background color of aqua shows through all over the place.
Not pleasant. <g>

It's rather .. plain .. why not try to spice it up for those single folks?

Ok.

Oh yuck, I hadn't checked that. Thanks, I've set a default in FF to
catch that in future.

Gonna have to pay me better, free just don't cut it.
And as I've said, I think I do ok developing, I don't have much in the
way of tast when it comes to design.

Ok.

Just something other than the same old left nav menu. <shrug

Much better!
Maybe the logo on top and the menu options a bit smaller so you can show
more content on 800x600.
I assume the layout of the rest of the pages will be the same?

Yes, probably through SSI once I get a good design and it's approved.
Mainly, I hate that all lavender background. It's hard on the eyes IMO.
I like white backgrounds, or just a bit off white. I'll see what I
can do with the logo; I was thinking about making both of the top curves
part of it instead of just the one and maybe shrink it down to about
500x100. Good idea; thanks.

There's a section just under and to the left of "Membership Application
Form" that's a lighter colour (#d6a5f7) than the rest of that
lilac/lavender area.

The soclogo.gif has no height or width defined - the page jumps horribly
while loading - everything else has been covered by others.

Thanks, lately, I've forgotten to set that quite often. That's why I
asked. Fixed now.

Hmm. I can't find/see it or any reason for it after looking pretty
closely. Did you look closely enough to see what's causing it?

It's image/nav2.gif. Seems to be a lighter colour than the rest of the
lilac/purple you have there. It may well be the gamma of my monitor too,
who knows?
