You have me intrigued and when I am intrigued you don't get off lightly
:-)

Quick and dirty:

http://users.rcn.com/neal413/opera.bmp
http://users.rcn.com/neal413/firefox.bmp
These all look absolutely perfect to me.

I do note however that the beige bit inside the div has been dithered. Now,
this is interesting and may bring something to light.

Maybe your browser is dithering the gif or the background green different to
mine. Who knows :-)

You really need to crank up maginfier and have a look at the offending
pixels at 10 times their usual size.

are you using the latest graphics driver for your card and directx?

As far as I am aware, yes. I am stoopid though.

check the card manufacturers home page for your graphics card. directx
should be 9.0c
I'm so lame. I cannot even determine IF I have a graphics card. Intel 810e
Chipset Graphics Driver according to Control Panel -> Display.

I never pay attention to that shit.
http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/810/810e.htm is what I find but I
have no clue what this is about...

You don't have a "graphics card" you have an AGP chipset that is on the
motherboard.

I have one of those too but I don't use it. I use a dual head AGP card
plugged into the motherboard slot plus a couple or three PCI cards.

Methinks you will just have to accept the fact that my system is different
to yours which is different to brucies.

FFS nobody is going to notice a colour difference there. They are more
likely to notice the really crook artifacts in the image up the top :-)

I may keep #408080 altogether. And cry in my sleep.

Try #428484. Please? Just so we can determine if it works on your
system. It
works on mine.
Great in Firefox, noticeably darker in IE and Opera. 16-bit

In 24-bit, it's bad in all 3.
