I went so far as to buy a microphone to do just that, and
discovered two things: one, the bandwidth would definitely be too
much, and two, I'm not a voice actor. :-) Some sort of VoiceXML
solution might work, one day.

A more immediate problem is using CSS to provide better support
for screen readers and voice browsers.

When I continuosly click on the "bookstacks" logo, it breaks your page.
I'm using OS 9.1 and Mozilla 1.2b

It works reasonably well in IBM's HPR (text to speech program) despite the
somewhat "flat" reading!. Some sort of "skip to main content" link would be
useful though to save trawling through the list of authors every time you go
to a new chapter/page.

Again, its a great project.

Perhaps bittorrent and speex could solve your bandwidth problem. As for
the voice acting, I guess you'll have to entice volunteers .

That's another good reason for me to take it out. I forgot that I
never tested anything on a Mac, not that I would be able to. A page
that simple should't break on anyone's browser ideally.

That's a good idea. That goes on the top of the to-do list.

That would do it. I haven't heard of speex, so I'll look into it.

In a perfect world, all browsers would be standards-compliant, too.

I would aim for the 95% solution - make sure that your page is standards-
compliant (it is) and that it looks good on the top browsers. Someone,
soemwhere, will always dig up a ghetto browser that won't display your
page properly.

I like IE6 and Firefox.

I know the feeling. Maybe every other week I have access to my friends
winbox. Or I suppose I could go to the library more often.

I just try to design my pages as simple as possible and hope for the
best...and that IE will continously lose market share.
