This site is nothing to do with me, but I'm interested to know your opinion of
it (to resolve a debate)......

[Opera 7.23] I see a page with a GIF image and a pointless reminder of
the URL I just used to get to the page, then I can't navigate anywhere.

[IE6] I see red, as in anger.

Slow to load the worthless splash page...

.... which opens a new window, and ANOTHER popup. Bad.

Oh, it's a frameset! Boy, they're striking out with me.

And if my javascript is off (or if I'm in a no-Javascript environment) the
splash is all I get.

My opinion? 0 stars. And a moldy tomato.

I have the Google toolbar which disables pop-ups; so I didn't get the
pop-up initially. I saw a box at the bottom - linked but no
description visible on what it was for - and got a full-screen pop-up
screen. Personally can't think of many that would be thrilled with
that result.

In my opinion, the text on the pop-up window would be better suited
being ON the index page versus in a pop-up. More beneficial to the
site having informative text on the page versus in a pop-up window.
Then they can ditch the following at the bottom while gaining a bit
more intriguing and informative entrance to the site:
<IMG SRC="images/spacer.gif" WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=300>
<FORM>
<INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE="" onClick="launchRemote()">
</FORM>
<A HREF="javascript:launchRemote()"></A>

All white scrollbars? Makes it hard for the user to use that part of
their browser. If wanting to use that effect, which is only viewable
in IE, I would suggest making part of it a different color to leave it
easy for use for folks using IE.

Also, snuck a peek in View Source:

The No Right Click script is a waste of space to use. Doesn't prevent
images being "grabbed", as reputed, if *that* is the thinking behind
using it. More of a hindrance than an asset to a site. Also - there
are ways to easily snag images that bypass that script without the
user needing to disable JavaScript then clicking refresh to regain use
of Right Click function - that is, if they really wanted to snag any
images from the site to begin with.

I don't think the layout needs to be in a table for this particular
appearance.

Font family already selected in head in the <style></style> section
slipped in - I would drop the <FONT SIZE=6 COLOR=BLACK FACE="Arial">
and use <h1></h1> instead for www.grampianpolicepipeband.com - maybe
at a size of 150% or so [through CSS] to get the appearance desired.
I would also drop the URL appearance and just use the band name for
the text - after all, the folks are already *on* that URL so why
repeat it to them as a link to enter?

Was interested in seeing more of the site, as I am also involved with
a non-profit band organization, but the link just reloads the splash
page.

Carol

BAD BAD BAD

I hate websites that take up my whole screen. It's just so wrong. The site
looks bland and doesn't size very well EVEN at full screen.

Hmmm. A popup. A Full Screen popup. A 1600x1200 popup.

How bloody rude and arrogant. Instant closure of web browser and a note
made to NEVER return.

Cheers
Richard.

I see nothing. Is there suposed to be content here somewhere ? All I see is
a set of horrible black and white boxes, and a massive link that goes
nowhere.

Netscape 7.0 on XP.
