Try using { background-color: transparent; } in those places. In most
circumstances, the rule is wherever you assign a color, you assign a
background color, and vice-versa.

images) will grow and shrink when text size is adjusted.

Ayup. Note that Opera will resize the images as well.

Ayup. Note that Opera will resize the images as well.

Okay then. In IE 6, and ff windows it seems to flow up and down in size
correctly. Have another look?
