I'd concentrated on tweaking every aspect of the 'printed page look' to
give the site the 'look and feel' of a book.

I feel if Verdana looks bigger and was designed to read better...
well... maybe the reverse is the reason... "IT READS BETTER BECAUSE IT
IS BIGGER"... the x-size and the width are increased to force the
ambiguous characters to be, NOT ambiguous. ;-)
