Default Site review request: www.elac.bc.ca - 07-08-2004 , 09:50 PM

I'd appreciate any feedback on http://www.elac.bc.ca/
particularly in regards to how the site is designed.

The markup is valid HTML 4.01 strict, but that doesn't
mean I've done things using 'best practices'.

The goal was to rewrite a site that previously had
used frames, had some broken links, and was authored
with frontpage. I had to use the existing content,
and the goal wasn't to "redesign", but to "rewrite".
I'm not a 'design person', but I may implement some
basic improvements if offered, and I can pass on
suggestions to the site's owner.

Note:
I'm going to also ask for a review via postings in:
- comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html, to ask
for feedback in regards to the markup
- comp.infosystems.www.authoring.stylesheets, to ask
for feedback in regards to the CSS
Please don't let that stop you from posting any comments
you may have as a reply to this posting :-)

Thanks

Let's see: bogus reply address, article posted as three separate
(and essentially identical) articles to three newsgroups I read, so
I have to deal with it three times.

Yeah, _that's_ gonna motivate me to help.

Let's see: bogus reply address
Post on Usenet, read the replies on Usenet.
In other words, there's no need for a valid
email address. I do understand people being
leary of such fake addresses, but:
- I get a huge amount of spam, and have been
"spam flooded", so this helps to minimize the spam
- I'm clearly identified in my signature block,
with two websites that have ways to contact me,
and if you do a Google search for Dave Patton,
my webpage has a pagerank of 1, so I'm not
trying to hide(just reduce spam)

I considered cross-posting it, but did three distinct
postings on purpose, to target the three separate
thrusts of the three groups - markup, design, and
stylesheets. Yes, I know they overlap, but as I
asked specific questions to each group, the posts
were in fact different, albeit about the same website.

As always, it's the reader's choice, but I'd
still appreciate any feedback about the site ;-)

You have provided a valid email address. It's not yours though.

Correct it to something (AT) something (DOT) invalid and people will be happier. It's
not fair to dump all your spam onto the owners of none.com, even though
they don't seem to be using it.

Thanks - I've learned something new :-)

RFC 2606 - Reserved Top Level DNS Names
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2606.html:

To reduce the likelihood of conflict and confusion, a few
top level domain names are reserved for use in private testing,
as examples in documentation, and the like. In addition, a few
second level domain names reserved for use as examples are documented.

".invalid" is intended for use in online construction of domain names
that are sure to be invalid and which it is obvious at a glance are
invalid.

Appologies to none.com - I'm now using a .invalid "address".
