First off, this is not spam. I am going to roll out this website, and would
like everyone's honest opinion in regards to it. the url is
http://www.hostingforabuck.net. This isthe latest revised version, after
already receiving a fewtips.
Thanksin advance.

Looks ok, but I'd suggest using a transparent gif/png to change the
header/logo text to an image. And, for those two images, use something
besides plain old Arial, please? Maybe Arial Black with a tasteful drop
shadow or something.

wait, I noticed a ( by the login form on the right side of the main page
(and another at the bottom of that column). I took a look at the html
source and saw that it was made in MS Word, and the "compare.htm" page
seems to have been run through Dreamweaver. Run all the pages through
Dreamweaver, it should clean it up a bit. Try using a css stylesheet,
it should significantly lower the file sizes, as there is a lot of
markup on all the pages.

(a) Change the font definitions from 'pt' to '%' or 'em' to that the
text cab be resized by MSIE users.

(b) Put some alternative text on all your images as they seem to be
missing:
http://www.gododdin.demon.co.uk/ng/HOST1X.JPG (52k)

Text-only browsers will have a hard time with the page (especially with
links e.g the menu)

Screen-readers/talking-browsers will have also have a hard time trying
to make something of the links:
http://www.gododdin.demon.co.uk/ng/HOST2X.JPG (68k)

(c) Provide a link to bypass the menu and go directly to the main
content.

(d) Try marking up the table on the 'compare plans' page correctly so
that assistive technology users can navigate the table successfully

i.e. mark up the column and row headers properly.

regards.

I just took a quick look, and you've repeatedly misspelled "bandwidth." A
small point, but for some of us, that kind of mistake leaps out.

Is alt="img" really helpful to anyone? If it's purely decorative, alt=""
is better. If it's image as text (like a button) have the alt text match
the button text.

Why the parentheses on the right? One near the password box, the other
below the paragraph.

Disable the link to the current page - it's liable to confuse someone.
You're catering to the entry-level web authors, most of them are still a
little green.

I am top posting for a reason. First off, the website url should be
http://www.hostingforabuck.com ..not .net. I am phasing out the .net one,
and using that only as a backup server. PLEASE check out the.com site and
let me know what you think. I had triedthe .net site, and you guys already
tore it apart, so that is why I did the .com site. Thanks in advance.

You got the alt.html treatment, lucky you. Wish more sites did.

Interesting how you did the "Home, Compare Plans, Contact Us..." nav bar.
However, these links do not appear in the text-only (read: Google)
version. Suggest including them as text links, perhaps in the footer, just
so they get indexed.

Also, "bandwith" is still spelled wrong. Also, your content width yields
horizontal scrolling at 800px on IE6 - suggest narrowing content OR going
to a fluid layout.

Text size is NOT resixable - use em or % as unit.

I find the .net site easier to read because of the white text. On your
..com site your Home links point to index.html instead of index.htm

On your .com site you have about a 1/4in gap at the top.

My magic crystal ball says you really need to look into CSS

thanks for the tips Duende. Changed text to white just for you ). I am
teaching myself CSS as I go along. Also, I can't figure out how to get rid
of the gap on top of the pages, but will work on it. Anything else I should
work on?
