Don't know - must be just the sheer number of links on that page.

http://tranchant.plus.com/tmp/jt is the output from the old validator,
of which I have a local copy. That takes a while to work through the
catalogue page, but gets there eventually.

I also see the new W3C validator giving up on the catalogue page, on a
faster connection.

Don't you lot over the pond spell catalogue without the "ue"?
