Default memorable domain names - 08-12-2003 , 02:38 AM

I'm at the point of having to choose a domain name. The names I can
invariably remember have letters followed by a short number. Do
others have the same experience? Or know if this has been discussed?

Well, if it's something like Vat69, I suppose it's memorable enough.

But just as a generic question, I don't know how to answer. It would
depend on the letters and the number. (By "letters" I assume you
mean they'll make a word. Just a jumble of letters is awfully hard
to remember unless you do something kewl like gr8est.)

I don't think names are easier to remember with numbers. Maybe it
seems that way because those names are used less often than regular
names?
In Holland we have a site about public transport, which uses it's
phonenumber in the name: www.ov9292.nl.
It took me ages to remember if it was ov9292, or 9292ov.... (ov is
short for openbaar vervoer, which means public transport).
-and I just even had to check again before sending this message, to
make sure I didn't get it wrong ;-)

Sincerely,
Els

One more thing to consider. I often hear radio-stations announce their
domains on radio, and you don't always know just how you'd write what
they're saying. If they say "one live" (a local station), it could be 1-
live, one-live, onelive, and so on. If it's a single made-up word, the
domain-name is much more clear (think "jabberwocky.com", not much to get
wrong hearing this).
