Default Key words for search engines - 01-08-2004 , 11:58 AM

Group,
I host two web sites and am having trouble with getting search
engines such as Google to find the web sites from the key words I
have sent in.
However, when I pay a specialist to do the same thing, he gets
results.
What is the correct procedure. I would like to be able to do this
myself.
Doug

If you mean <meta name="keywords" content=...>, these are ignored by
most, if not all, search engines.

If you have too much money, I suggest <http://www.unicef.org/support/> .

Certainly not through <meta keywords>.

BTW: There's <news:alt.internet.search-engines>

Doug,

Please dont pay any more snake-oil merchants... it's equivalent to feeding
the pidgeons in the city centre...

Just ignore them and they will go away.

As suggested already, there are other NG's and plenty of websites where you
can get tips on search
engine optimisation.

The bottom line is to build a site with valid HTML (so the crawlers can read
it), and relevant content (this
way the crawlers will know what your 'keywords' are), and get some reputable
sites to link back to you - do
this an your sites will be listed in no time...

That worked well for me... I've never paid anybody for "search engine
optimization" and never used any contorted spamdexing tricks, but do
use valid HTML and relevant content, and I'm doing quite well:

My site: http://webtips.dan.info/
#1 on Google for "web tips"

My site: http://mailformat.dan.info/
#3 on Google for "mail format"

My site: http://www.tiffany.org/
#3 on Google for "tiffany"

My site: http://www.tatiana.info/
#2 on Google for "tatiana"

All of these search strings produced total results in the millions.
