As is often the case, the first attempt fell by the wayside and has been
re-written:

Any comments, browser problems etc? Please don't comment on the
over-detailed logo in Comic Sans MS - that wasn't mine.

Inspirations were:

for the menu. I'll probably tweak the appearance slightly to
differentiate it from the original, but I do quite like it as it is.

I know the header doesn't quite work down to 640x480. I might use a
trick like this:

to re-style the header bar below the threshold width.
