Default GoLive to Dreamweaver_Changeover question - 09-09-2004 , 03:41 AM

Hi,
I am in the process of changing from Adobe GoLive to Macromedia
Dreamweaver. I have a website under constant development for an organization
and I am having a problem finding out how to get sidebars and pages already
constructed in GoLive to update automatically in Dreamweaver..

What I want, is to be able to create sidebars and/or templates for pages so
that they will update throughout the whole website whenever I make any
changes to them, not just in the new pages added with Dreamweaver..

In GoLive I use "Components" for sidebars and "Stationery" for page
templates, which is the equivalent of "Library" (sidebars) and "Templates"
in Dreamweaver.

I have dragged from GoLive "Components" to D'weaver "Library", but the
Library items won't update pages already made in GL. I have made new Library
items from existing pages, but same problem.

The same with "Stationary" to "Templates".

Does anyone know how I can make updates throughout the system in Dreamweaver
without having to revert to GL?

I thank you in hope.

Iain Jacobs

This is the disadvantage of using proprietary tools. My recommendation,
which isn't what you want to hear, is to implement your sidebars and
menus using home-brewed PHP or ASP code.

Or plain vanilla SSI even - with well seasoned CSS, of course!
