Default Critique site usability, rivisited - 07-02-2003 , 01:34 AM

Greetings all, long time no talk.

After absorbing piles of feedback from this group and from my site's
users, I've redesigned the UI for <http://www.AmericanSocial.com/> and
am getting much better user response. I would be very interested to
hear any constructive critiques y'all might have on the new layout.
I'm more interested in usability-related issues than "I'm not crazy
about that shade of blue", but feel free to comment on anything you
like.

Regards,

Look up "fluid design". I think your site can do this quite easily. Only
remark I have, really.

Great site, neat look.

I agree. Well done. But centering the table would look cleaner than
leaving it left-aligned as it is now.

Also use Alt="Next page" for your next.gif, and preferably use Alts for
the people imgs as well.

Strange, the content is centered on the page in all the browsers I've
tested. (There's a text-align CSS attribute applied to the entire
body) What browser are you viewing it with? Perhaps I need to specify
centering in other ways as insurance.
The table isn't centered in Mozilla 1.3 or Opera 7. It seems
that the problem is that <div style=triangle> doesn't have a matching
end-tag. I tried fixing it for a minute or so, but didn't figure out
how.. Then I removed the tag, ... still no change (except the bacground
specified in the stylesheet didn't apply anymore). I then ran the file
through tidy[*] and voila! problem solved.
[*] You should get this utility, it's helps you find and fix errors
in html. It's also useful adding doctypes, converting to xhtml
and xml, converting entities, formatting source and more. It's
freely available and you find it on sourceforge, probably
http://tidy.sf.net.
