Default Choosing a technology for web designing - 06-08-2006 , 07:37 AM

Hi,

Any ideas on which technology is more suitable for designing a website
which would have features like user login, paypal, etc?

Thanks.

Probably one that you are familiar with, that your host can handle... Though
you may want to check if Paypal and others have special requirements.

Raga, I represent a product that you might be interested in evaluating.
The product EXP Web, formally called Octane8 is web enablement
framework that allows both technical and non-technical users to deploy
an unlimited number of websites and subsites. The application is
developed on a .NET platform and runs on Webserver 2003. The
application includes 19 pre-coded apps and/or scripts to include:
Calendar, Newsletter, Announcements, Document Library, Workflow,
Directory, Press Releases etc......Optional applications include
Digital Dashboard and a very robust Shopping Cart. Here is a link if
you are interested: www.sungard.com/exp. Select the Deliver option and
Octane8.

IMO: PHP or ASP.Net

PHP because it is easy and have lots of code libraries,
help etc. available. It is proven, yet still quite fresh.

ASP.Net

If you do not mind going Windows-only,
this could be a good choice in some circumstances.

Agree with dk.

PHP is open source and therefore lovely and free. Also pretty simple
for a beginner to pick up. ASP.Net is an exceptional platform but quite
complex to learn.

Others are jsp and Coldfusion. Can't comment on those except that
Coldfusion is a Macromedia product and expensive I believe. You might
also think about old style ASP (although Microsoft will stop supporting
this some day fairly soon).

All the above will allow you to integrate with ecommerce gateways and
databases.

Good Luck
