Default zeal.com - dead or alive? - 08-12-2004 , 11:14 AM

I took and passed the zeal quiz and submitted my website:

http://members.westnet.com.au/andydolphin

to

Home>Australia>New>Library>Art & Humanities > Visual Arts>Artists
A-Z>Artists C-D

Later, I posted a question to the discussion forum in the above category.
Not only has there been no reply (yet) but it seems only one person has
ever really posted in the Australian Arts category and it appears she
hasn't posted there for over two years.

Given this, can anyone suggest the likelihood that my submission will be
seen and/or reviewed by anyone at zeal or how long it might usually take?

Andy D.

Zeal is alive, it is a division of Looksmart. Who knows how long? If you
placed your submission in the correct place and have a description that they
like it could be soon. If they shoot it down...then a while. New submissions
have to be placed in a top(parent) category before going straight to a child
category. The editors will decide the further placement of the site.

Hmmm, I thought the directions stated that submissions should go to the
right place to make things easier for editors. As such, I posted it to the
end of a branch, in the Artists C-D category. Isn't this the usual
recommendation (eg. DMOZ, Yahoo)?

You would think. I had 2 sites kicked backed because I didn't start them the
top cat. The editor that will take care of the site once it is in their will
put it in the correct spot from the top cat and gain the most points that
should have been your earnings.

that probably should have been "more artists c-d" which is a further sub
category.

When I look at site submissions on zeal I prefer the sites to be
submitted to the correct category.

I just took a look at the and there are no zealots at all for
that area except for the paid looksmart staff in the library category.

I am a zealot for
Australia > New > Library > Reference Desk > Visual Image Archive >
Australia
and a couple of others.

I don't care to much about the points I have enough categories. if you post
a site to
the wrong area you will lose points when somebody else moves it.

I see that category now you mention it, but I don't recall seeing it when
I submitted. I think I saw the artists' names listed and, given this was
the first time I'd navigated the menus, assumed this was the level at
which artists' sites should be submitted. I see now that those artists
names were categories within themselves and not site listings.

BTW, is it my imagination or has the message board link for artists c-d
disappeared (Was it ever there? If not, how did I post to it?)

I can see a davidj5 listed as a zealot in the "more artists" category and
have left a message on his message board.

Can you explain how you "see" new submissions (is there a link you use
which shows them?) and if the system means that an editor/zealot wouldn't
see submissions if they don't go hunting through parent categories? If
there is no zealot, what happens to submissions?

Thanks in advance,

Andy D.

Thanks in advance,

when you have enough points to become a zealot of a category you have a
tools
page which lists all of the activity in categories you are a zealot of.

Thanks, that site is a big help. It would be great if zeal pointed
newcomers to that site before they submit anything.

One suggestion in there however was to check a submission's status by
simply clicking on the submission title. When I do this, my status is
shown as "published" and "unpaid" but I cannot see it listed. What does
"published" mean?

published means it should be in the directory somewhere but not always where
you submitted it, if I have time later I will have a bit of a look for you.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. I searched the directory but came up
