today for commercial reasons... but why not a co-opperation with some intellegence agency to look for strings of certain keywords? Because those agencies have already stuff like that running? They just tap the Internet. |

It would be logical to look for info where you can find it. Many inventions and techniques from the past were used and abused by the wrong people for the wrong reasons. So what else is new? |

Another thing are the Google earth maps... many countries allready complained about it being to accurate for terrorists to abuse, displaying sensitive areas or installations, giving coordinates with it. Ah, yeah, those terrorists really have a hard time finding those objects otherwise. I mean, to blow up some things in London you really need Google... Today resolution is ok, but tomorrow it will get better. At best privacy within the walls of your own home is all that remains, that is, if you do not use modern technologies... ...what's next, infrared? Heat seeking? Info on each house, displaying full address and personal info? It is not unthinkable you know... Yup, and today, you have to go to the town and ask the neighbours. If someone wants the info, he/she gets it. |
|
today the can find you by tracing IP or who knows what else ... they can already point out where you live... maybe add some info from your ISP or other place that collects these data... put two and two together and bingo! Just a matter of time before you would be able to track your own car and thus someone elses online, live... Consider for a moment how fast things evolved, where will you be in the next 20-30 years? Having blind faith in these things thinking all and everything will be ok or turn out for the best would be fairly naive. Thinking it is only *now* possible, thanks to Google, that's naive. |

LOL!! Don't know why as trust me the terrorist already have that info or they know how to gain it. Google is only using info that was already out there and able to get. It isn't their technology. Also coordinates of longitude and latitude is already given on most maps for military installations. |

Just a matter of time before you would be able to track your own car and thus someone elses online, live... There are ways to mask an IP. Shoot the phone book has been out for years, also you can gain info about anyone by having it looked it up with some agencies. Had a report done for my daughter as she needed it for her job when she went on a cruise ship. The best way for anyone to hide is have an unlisted phone #, tell the PO not to give out your address |

Google is larger then Google.com you know. snip |
|
But underestimating things is what bring about unforeseen problems. You choose to ignore and you know what, that's fine by me! ;-) |
|
No... you try to simplify and minimize what I'm saying... you're obviously in love with your favorite crawler (google that is). |

No problem here; the PO can rarely actually find my address now... |

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against progress here, I make use of what is available myself! But that doesn't mean I have to 'surrender' my info and/or privacy just to gain that extra visit does it? |

I believe Roys refers not to the fact that the data can be stolen from Google. I think he doesn't like the idea of Google becoming Orwell's Big Brother. Google is not a governement. Once they will know enough, governements wil have nothing to say. Uhm, you lost me. |

You probably already did that, if we wanted to collectively start getting seriously in your case. I doubt you'd be to hard to find from what you've already given up. |
