Default A way to check for broken links? - 01-05-2004 , 04:23 AM

I apologize in advance if this is not the correct newsgroup for this
question, but does anyone know a service, some software, a site, or
whatever, that I could use to check for broken hyperlinks?

The site I'm designing has about 1,500 hyperlinks and when finished will
have over 5,000. As you might imagine checking them on a regular basis is
tedious in the extreme.

Thanks for any assistance that might be forthcoming.

Our new site offering a free SEO toolset has just such a tool. Please try
it out for a site your size. I am curious to see if it can handle that
size for a site well.

I get emails off:::
http://seventwentyfour.com/

As recommended by the Robot Guidelines, this email is to explain our
robot’s activities and to let you know about one of the broken links
we encountered. LinkWalker does not store or publish the content of
your pages, but rather uses the link information to update our map of
the World Wide Web.

Are these reports helpful? I'd love some feedback. If you prefer not
to receive these occasional error notices please let me know.

Its pointed out a few bits to me but software like dreamweaver has
link checkers in.
And there is always the old looking at the site in a browser.

Thanks to everyone in this newsgroup who offered such good advice. I will
try all of the sites to determine which works best.

Have you tried out Link Checker Pro:

http://www.link-checker-pro.com

I found it easy to use and it quickly went through several thousand
links on our website (they claim to be able to handle website
containing 100,000+ links). It also seems unique in being able to show
a graphical representation of your website structure.
