Default Title sequence - 01-10-2006 , 03:57 PM

Someone has cited to me a theory that search engine placement is
improved if titles are arranged from the specific to the general instead
of from the general to the specific:

Search Optimization - Services - ABC Company

rather than

ABC Company - Services - Search Optimization

Is there any truth to that?

Whatever comes 1st will make that phrase most important to ranking.

Not sure, but I would put the important stuff up front, especially if you
have a long title, since even if Google doesn't care, your user might be
not interested in reading it all.

Something like:

Search optimization - SEO services overview - ABC Company

I would drop out ABC Company unless you want to do branding.

I think alot of times we think more about the search engines than we do the
visitor and even the web site owner. Yes, by all means we must please the
search engine, but a title like :

Search optimization - SEO - Web Site Promotion - Search engine optimization

don't mean much to a potential visitor, especially if Google attaches a
similar written description in the result. What really is the sense of
attaining high rankings, especially in competitive keyphrase environments,
when the visitor will move to the next one like John's choice : Search
optimization - SEO services overview - ABC Company

John's title is a good one in this case, giving a human quality to the site
and showing the potential visitor what the site is about, while at the same
time giving the search engine what it wants and perhaps of equal importance
in this business is that the web site owner is pleased to see his company
name in there and at the top of the browser window.

Hey, I said the same thing basically. What you want to be most important
should go first.:-)

I totally agree with what you said Stacey, first things first.
