I don't blame you. I spend less time here now myself.

So... I was thinking, who would be interested in a lighter version of this
group [0], on a web based forum [1]. SEO / web development will be on
topic, but also a lot of off-topic stuff that goes on here, and we can
think off :-D.

Based on my experience with another board I would say that at least 20 (!)
active people are needed to keep such a board from dying
You can count me in.

Oh, wait a minute, that will count me out, won't it ? LOL

Heh :-) Nah, I think a mellow board stops people from spamming / trolling
/ flaming (well, way less).

I already admin one board, and so far everything stays quite peacefully.
If there are just a few people interested, I might consider inviting them
over, but not sure if they want to fit in.

Anyway, just testing the water. If no one is really interested, no
worries. You can always drop an email just to say hi / or with a question
on .htacess or whatever.

[0] I wanted to include aww as well, and all holds for aww as well, but I
figured if the water here is cold, it might be frozen in aww :-D.
(no offense)

[1] phpBB, hosted somewhere cheap, I have no problem taking care of that
part.

I'd like an invite when you have set it up John, if I'm welcome.

Ta,

Jez.

Of course you are :-)

I have a domain that's currently doing nothing, I guess I just set
something up, and we'll see.

OK, I hijack this one and x-post it to aww, and f-up to back here (aise).

Short summary: I am stopping with Usenet [0] (real soon now), but like to
stay in touch with people in both aise / aww.

I will configure coming week a web based forum (phpBB) on a spare domain I
have. If you're interested reply to this post by email, or email me:

contact at johnbokma dot com

I'll confirm your email asap. If you don't get a reply within one day,
post a comment on my site (see sig).

Some more info for people who read this the first time:

- everybody is welcome unless you want to make a mess of it
- I want to avoid moderation as much as possible [1]
- personal attacks are unwelcome / let the past be in the past
- the goal of the board is to provide a place to hang out, a virtual
water cooler. This means that aise/aww stuff is on topic, but that
there is a lot of room for off topic stuff (you, your life, pets,
music you like, movies you like, books you read).

In short: a friendly, mellow place to share the stuff that interests you;
both web development / SEO related (20%) as well as personal stuff (80%)
[2].

Since I am afraid that we get very little sign ups in the beginning (I was
hoping to get at least 20 people in total from both groups, but I guess
the real number will be closer to 10) if you know people who would be
interested, please invite those as well.

[0] Too much noise/spam, don't like the constant flaming (of which I have
done more than my share), etc.

[1] I am admin of another board for 3 years, and it's a very nice place
right now. The only moderation I've done so far is:

- locking threads when things went out of hand so people could cool
down (rare)
- moving aforementioned threads to a "hidden" area
- removal of spam (rare, and none after I hacked the default
phpBB CAPTCHA to be a bit harder)

[2] the % is just how I guess the ratio will be, in case you expect a
SEO / web development forum with hardly any "off topic" stuff. I
would like to see it the other way around.

Don't know if you got my posting, it didn't show up on my reader but it does
in Google. Really strange.

I think 10 is good. You can ask people you know too.
