Default Teacher Struggling With Website And Adwords. Help! - 06-30-2006 , 12:52 PM

I am a Middle School teacher trying to created a Internet Safety
program to teach parents what they need to know to protect their kids
on the net. I have no experience in sales or marketing and am trying to
get this program as much attention as possible through my website and
adwords campaign. A Couple Questions:

First, Please Take A Look At My Website www.cybersafetynet.com I am
trying to drive traffic through the "SafeEyes" page since that is the
content monitoring tool I marketing to parents in addition to my
personalized service. Id like to know what I can go to make sure as
many parents stay and read the site as possible.

Second, I started an Google Adwords campaign last night. Most of my
keywords are keyed to my topic and starting to get hits and my rank is
in the top 5 on all terms. However I am not getting clickthrough. So
Far I have 1 out of 300. I will paste my ads here. Please Critique them
and give me an idea of out I can get more clickthroughs.

Hi Michael,

What keywords/keyphrases are you using in your Adwords campaign? You may
need to adjust them, there may be others that would work better for you.
Usually adjusting them to be more specific works.

There are also some things you could do to your website (with regard to
presentation) that would make it more likely to capture sales.
More professional design often equates with credibility. (A few fast things
you could fix: make font use consistent, don't begin each word with a
capital, don't center text, etc. check spelling, capitalization etc.)

You also might make it clear whether you can work with anyone (over the
internet) or just folks in your neck of the woods (Orlando?).

If you'd like some assistance with design or in promoting the site, let me
know, would be glad to help, either free or a reduced rate. (I like working
for good causes, etc...)

It's a great thing you're doing, and I wish you much success.

Few Questions....
I am focusing first on my SafeEyes page which is my main "non-local"
link to sales. My personalized program is designed to be to local
residents of Orlando and my by-phone safety overview is meant to be
nationwide. Should I get rid of ALL of my "All Caps" sentences or just
some? I already changed my "SafeEyes Solution paragraph" to regular
english grammer. I also corrected a few spelling mistakes on each page.
It should be updated momentarily. Thanks.

You say you are a teacher, yet spell grammar incorrectly. Obviously
not an English teacher then

Social Studies actually, but theres not much of an excuse other than I
type too quickly at times. I just completed a major overhaul of my
"SafeEyes" Page. I corrected all the spelling mistakes I could locate.
Switched nearly everything back to Times font and took the centering
off. Since I am using a temple site builder(which i regret) the text
box in the bottom left hand corner might need to be pushed over a bit
to make everything line up. Please critique my changes.

IIRC serif fonts are harder to read on the screen (but easier on the eye
on paper).

Hi Mike,

link to sales.
Sure. But you don't know what people will focus on first when they get to
your site.

If you have more than 1 page on your site, they all should be in order.

Quote:

nationwide.
I'd make that explicit on your services page, it will help you make sales.

Quote:

I'd get rid of 'em all, yeah. Headlines are OK in that style but nothing
else.

Each Sentence Beginning With A Capital makes it very hard to read.
It's harder to read text on the web than on a page anyway, so make it easy
on folks, OK?

Quote:
I already changed my "SafeEyes Solution paragraph" to regular
english grammer.
Cool.

Quote:

Cool. Those kind of things do make an impression.

When you're selling something, image is so important. I know you're really
focused on AdWords at the moment, but if your site puts people off when they
click on the ad and go to your site, you've paid for a click that didn't do
you or them any good.

I understand you made your site with a free builder, but there's still a lot
within your control. If you get your site in order, you're more likely to
catch folks' interest once they get there. :-)

Oh, one more thing I noticed: You might make a note that the links to "The
Top 10 Online Dangers
Every Parent Should Know" list on the SafeEyes page goes to external sites.
It looks so much like the list of the same 10 dangers that's elsewhere on
your site, that it may surprise folks when they wind up going off your site.

Do let me know if you want further help.
