What's the rationale for showing the DMOZ information instead of an
excerpt from the page?

Sorry for cutting you off with your answer BB. I didn't know anybody
was still awake on the other side of the big lake.

If I may state an opinion regarding the OP's follow-up question, I
would be much obliged.

Google is seeking the most credible way to describe the web site. It
wants to show something that has authenticity. It trusts the DMOZ
description and uses it rather than the suggested description in META
tags or snippets created from the web page's content.

I had always thought, and considered it to be most useful, that the text
would be an excerpt that included one or more of the search terms so
that I could tell without visiting the page in what context my terms
appeared. That's more useful to me as a searcher than knowing the
general gist of what the page is about.

DMOZ description is used only for the main page, all others snippets are
(usually) created as you suggest.

Thanks for your responses that is very useful and I guess that it makes
sense.. My next question then is how do you change the dmoz listing?
