a friend of mine 3 month ago build a little site of apartments around the world: www.citiesholiday.com . I explain to him the basic seo optimization and the links issue. He did the site, create some links ( no link from yahoo or important directories), |
|
and in the last google PR update he had 4 in the home page and ALL the rest of the site pages had 4 or 3 or 2. i cannot understand how he could achive the result of 4 and why all the rest of the pages had 4 or 3 even if there are no link in the web that goes to those pages. |

If he has just one link to his main page - he can earn PR for that main page. The PR will then start flowing his site to the inner pages. I imagine the PR2 pages are not linked from his main page but from one of the other inner pages? Carol |

yes Carol, that's right, he has pr 2 to the pages that are not linked to the main one. |
|
But what i would like to say is: the inner pages that are linked directly to the main one will always benefit of a PR if the main page has a PR ? |

Would happen if he had those pages in a subdirectory also - seems those drop one level in PR just like pages linked from an inner page also risk being one notch lower than the page they are linked from. |

You aren't saying having a page in a subdirectory one level down means PR drops by 1 point because it's in a subdirectory? |

That's a very old myth and easily shown to be false since it's easy to create a subdirectory with higher PR than the root. |

At least I have seen sites where the subdirectory's pages were one point lower than the page the subdirectory was linked to from. Does your friend get anyone visting his site and does he rank in the top 10 of SE results for his target keywords? I checked the following keywords Appartamenti Toscana Appartamenti Barcellona and Barcelona Apartments Appartamenti San Pietroburgo and St. Petersburg Apartments Appartamenti Budapest and Budapest Apartments and the site wasn't in the top 20 in Google. I didn't check Cities Holiday because it is not good English so I doubt anyone searches on this team. The site is far from SE friendly. The banner text is an image with no ALT text or link. It is the usual table driven layout which means little content and lots of code. am i missing something really easy to understand maybe ?? Yes stop focussing on what the Google toolbar tells you and focus on buliding traffic. |
