Doshdosh is the 21st most popular blog on the Interent,
according to Technorati, so i think he knows what he is
doing with alt text and images. I try to
match my images to the topic but not in every case, and the same with
the alt text. Doshdosh does the same, many of his images are not
connected to the topic but just nice images.... in his mind this is
part of marketing. And as the 21st most popular blog on the web he
is someone's advice I trust.
More fool you.

Just because someone is 'popular' (assuming you are right, I really wouldn't
know) doesn't mean they are always right.

And in this case he's wrong. Go read up on 'alt attribute', please don't
take my word for it.

And if he's REALLY as popular as you claim, then why does he feel the need
to spam newsgroups to promote his 'blog'?

@Andrew, I wish I did run the site doshdosh.com As he is well know,
like Andrew Beard and Uberdose (which I referenced here
http://wp.uberdose.com/2008/02/24/mo...really-counts/
and Seth Godin. Sorry if I offended you in anyway, you seem very
angry or troubled by the reference, as evidenced by your contumelious
epithets.

I am sorry. Please do not take offense, but I am not doshdosh; I was
only trying to help out the guy who asked the question by refering to
'authority sites' as defined by technorati and giving specific
references to something related to the topic of social media
networking which was the initial theme on this tread.

I had a ceveat 'IMO' as I am not perfect in my understanding all
things. However, the topic was not "alts" but social networking
which this article http://www.doshdosh.com/social-media...rking-and-roi/
I thought was right on topic and theme.

However, you might be right about 'alt text' . In fact I am sure you
are but please explain yourself so others might learn from you.
Please explain what you mean in your own words or a good reference, as
this is a cordial (I hope) forum and a nice place to exchange ideas in
a constructive way. I sincerely wish you well.

Someone's suggested flickr to me recently - do you have any experience
of using this site?

Yeah, have several photos on it, but I am afraid that you have to spend a
lot of time on it to get action. In my opinion, and in my case, I get much
more visitors by publishing the photo on my own site, with some content.

facebook makes me feel very old as most users weren't born when I left
school.

You can get a lot of visitors via digg, but IMO they are worthless.
Tourists. They flock like starlings.

LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/) is the only one that makes a difference
to me. All you need to do is ensure you add your website to your profile.

Linkedin does seem to be the professional's social network. So's Xing.

Not all - I'd never heard of the site or the names you dropped (or the ones
you are dropping now). I simply speak as I find, and I'm sorry if that
offends you. I can't see exactly what might have offended you, so I can't
clarify the issue.

Go google [alt attribute] and learn. There's thousands of sources that can
do a much better job than I.

If you are not paid by the geezer, do stop link dropping on his behalf - it
does you no favours. And, incidentally, doesn't help him either.

@ Andrew I only mention a link in the middle of my post when I refer
to something that is relevant to the topic, which those were. - we
both know that links here have little or no or negative value on sites
(I am not getting paid by them nor anyone, I have a day job, the
internet is not my life). Your writing is very silly sometimes .
This forum is about exchanging ideas and its fun as the people here
(and there are only about a dozen regulars) are informative and
sometimes funny.

I am not one to give advice, as I am not an expert on life but----

Andrew just relax in general, you are either really young and buzzing
with the arrogance of youth or just uptight. relax, your a nice guy
and I saw your site and you have interesting things on it. however,
try not to point in accusation at people. The best way to deal with
people you think are spamming is do not reply to them. This forum is
over run by spam and its really irritating, but no reason to point in
accusation all the time; or YOUR negativity when it is misdirected
becomes a form of spam. But Andrew if you want to 'ROAR LIKE A
LION' then 'roar like a lion'. roooar.

My guess; uptight!

@ Andrew why do WE waste are breath with trying to enlighten other
people (earch other) who do not listen and take up other people's
space here. Lets me and you limit our comments to Search engines
rather than droll tit for tat. agreed?
